Council launches new Mid Argyll app

Mid Argyll’s appeal as a great location for cyclists and walkers moved up a gear this week with the launch of a new digital active travel guide.

Discover Dalriada Mid Argyll is a downloadable mobile app that shows seven self-guided trails in the area, ranging from relatively flat routes around the waterfront in Lochgilphead, to Kilmartin Glen past some of the most important and densely packed prehistoric sites in Scotland.

Each trail page includes a map and a detailed route description to allow users to decide whether the trail is suitable.

The app also has over 30 fun Eye Spy games and challenges to keep the whole family entertained.

Key features include:

- Seven self-guided walking trails
- Maps and route descriptions
- Over 50 points of interest to discover on the trails
- Fun family Eye Spy challenges to spot features in and around Lochgilphead and on the trails
- Links to local visitor information resources

The council’s Policy Lead for Economic Development, Councillor Robin Currie, said: “Discover Dalriada Mid Argyll is the latest in a series of active travel apps that the council has developed thanks to funding from Transport Scotland’s Smarter Choices Smarter Places. The app has lots of useful features and further enhances the area’s appeal as a fantastic place to explore while encouraging people to get out and about and be more active.

“Argyll and Bute is a great visitor destination and we remain committed to promoting it far and wide. Existing apps are also available for Campbeltown, Dunoon, Helensburgh, Rothesay and Oban. You can view information about all the apps on the council website.”

The new app is available to download on on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
