Robert Cowper explained that following the last meeting where the new Community Safety Strategic Partnership was tabled and endorsed the new reporting mechanism would fall into place with immediate effect. He thanked everyone for their past input to the Community Safety Forums.

Robert Cowper, the Community Safety Officer, tabled a report detailing a proposal to restructure Community Safety Partnership working that integrates community safety with community planning structures. The proposal was developed with community safety partners and has been endorsed by the Community Planning Partnership. 

 

Discussions took place regarding the new structure and it was agreed in principle. The chair requested that the Community Safety Report and diagram of the proposed structure are attached to the published minutes from today’s Community Safety Forum meeting. Comments from partners should be forwarded to Robert Cowper whose contact details are noted in the report.

The Chair advised that a new Chair of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Community Safety Forum will be appointed at the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee on 10th December and would be there for the next meeting in February.

 

He also advised that No Cold Calling stickers are now available free of charge from Police Scotland and Council buildings.

The Issue of attendance was raised and the Chair the Area Governance officer agreed to tackle this issue following the meeting by reviewing the mailing list  and providing invites to a number of individuals

 

A question was raised about whether the NADICs signs outside the town could be used to promote road safety messages when not specifically being tasked with Incident updates – the Area Governance officer to liaise with the Chair to investigate

Woman’s Aid

 

Jan Byrne updated the Forum on the refuse for woman/children for domestic violence.  She advised that there are currently 9 families that can be housed in Bute and she is here to support women who have experienced trauma.  She explained that it is hard for Woman’s Aid to access funds but a London Charity has helped them out recently and they are continuing to look for funding to keep the group going.  She advised her referrals come through Social Work, Police Scotland and also online Council referrals.
