The Council operates 4 Area Committees, one in each of the Council’s administrative areas; Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands; Oban, Lorn and the Isles; Bute and Cowal and Helensburgh and Lomond.

The Area Committees meet every month, with the exception of July when the Council is in recess.

Services Covered by the Area Committees

The Area Committees have a remit to;

• Develop and maintain Area Plans within the Council’s Planning and Performance Management Framework and Corporate Plan framework outcomes;
• Monitor and review achievement of key outcomes identified in the Area Plan and in the delivery of local services;
• Approve expenditure of revenue and capital expenditure within any criteria or allocation delegated to the Area Committee by the Council or the Executive;
• Determine issues of a local and non strategic nature relating to all of the Council’s services and functions within any framework and criteria approved by the Council or the Executive;
• Support and encourage effective collaboration and coordination between and within community based organisations operating in the local area;
• Lead on the Council’s participation in the Local Area Community Planning Partnership Group;
• Give effect to the Community Engagement Strategy at a local level;
• Undertake regulatory functions of the Council under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Roads (Scotland) Act 1984;
• Play a lead role in the formation of the Local Development Plan;
• Undertake pre application consultations in respect of the relevant designated applications for planning permission.
