Argyll and Bute Council is committed to accessibility and our aim is to make our website accessible to all.
Government guidelines and the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines advise standards for website compliance. Our aim is to meet WAI AA accessibility guidelines, complying with all priority 1 and 2 requirements and many of the priority 3 checkpoints of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

We have an internal policy of continued monitoring of web accessibility issues and endeavour to fix in a timely manner.

Accessibility Help

All images contained within this site will include descriptive ALT tag attributes.

More complex images will include the long tag descriptions (LONGDESC) to explain the significance of each of the images to non-visual readers.

All ALT and LONGDESC descriptions will include meaningful content.

Every effort has been made to linearise tables used within this site. The appropriate mark up language has been used to explain the relationship between data within tables.

Assistive technologies

Within context of this website Assistive technologies refers to the hardware and or software devices that are used by people who may have difficulties using computer technology. Assistive technologies are sometimes referred to as adaptive software.

Assistive technologies can either be input or output devices (i.e. a mouse and keyboard are examples of input devices and a printer and monitor are examples of output devices). Assistive technologies include:

  • Screen readers
  • Screen magnifiers
  • Sound notification
  • Voice (or speech) recognition
  • Speech synthesis
  • Voice browsers
  • Text browsers

Some information on our website is contained in a separate file. You will have to read this using specific software.

These files are in PDF (Portable Document Format) form, which can be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader software. This software is provided free by Adobe Systems. Please use the link to the free software below.
