The Role of the Sensory Impairment Team
• covers the whole of the Argyll and Bute Council area
• provides help and support to people of all ages who have a visual impairment, a hearing impairment or a combined visual and hearing impairment

The Social Worker for Deaf and Hearing Impaired People:
• assists anyone with a hearing impairment
• assesses the needs and provides appropriate
• equipment if possible
• informs and assists with benefits entitlements and claims
• liaises for assistance with other agencies
• offers information and emotional support if required
The Social Worker for Visual Impairment:
• assists people of all ages with all types of visual impairments
• can offer emotional support to people losing their eyesight
• provides information about the benefits of registering as partially sighted or blind
• can assess the needs of visually impaired people and their carers
• liaises with other agencies and arranges appropriate services
• provides some equipment as appropriate
The Rehabilitation Worker for Visual Impairment:
Provides advice and training with:
• independent living skills, such as food and drink preparation or the use of domestic appliances
• communication skills such as reading, writing, using the telephone
• mobility, whether independently or with another person
• the use of specialist equipment
• the use of residual eyesight using equipment such as magnifiers
• referral to other relevant services as appropriate
