Fostering, adoption and looked after children

Thank you for your interest in fostering and adoption in Argyll and Bute.

We try to offer as broad a service as possible to meet the needs of the children and young people in our area. We firmly believe that most children benefit from being in a family placement.

These pages are designed to give information on fostering and Adoption and give you a clear indication of the range of tasks we ask carers to undertake.

Many children in Argyll and Bute are in need of family placement. We need families who can invest a lot of time and energy in the children. Patience, tolerance and a good sense of humour are essential qualities. We know that it is not an easy task and as we are committed to offering a high level of support.

Children in your area need families who can offer them a safe family environment. If you think that you could offer this to a child and make them feel part of your family life then we would like to hear from You

Adoption
Adoption is when a child or young person placed in your home legally becomes a member of your family. The adopted child takes the name of the family and becomes a permanent member of that family just as a birth child does.
