Swine flu is different from ordinary flu because it’s a new flu virus that appears in humans and spreads very quickly from person-to-person worldwide.
Because Swine flu is a new virus, no one has immunity to it and everyone could be at risk of catching it. This includes healthy adults as well as older people, young children and those with existing medical conditions. Therefore, the Government has committed to the provision of a national swine flu immunisation programme for the people of Scotland.

What should people do if they have flu-like symptoms?
If you have flu-like symptoms or have been with someone who has, you can check your symptoms with the NHS Self Help Guide or call your GP or NHS 24 on 0845 4 24 24 24.
You are advised that the best defence is to ensure regular hand washing and the correct disposal of used tissues (Catch it. Bin it. Kill it.).
The Council is working closely with partners the Scottish Government and NHS Highland and have put in place appropriate emergency planning and business continuity arrangements.
