Argyll and Bute Council are empowered by The Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 and The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to regulate access to Public Roads and stopping on Public Roads by various classes of vehicle and also pedestrians. Regulation is implemented by means of Orders, made in accordance with the Acts. The Orders fall into two categories; Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs) and Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs). TTROs are effective for limited periods of time to allow such activities as roadworks, public events on the road, and in the interest of public safety. TROs are used to control traffic flow, parking and alter speed limits. TROs are also employed to designate Public Roads in accordance with the legislation.
The Regulations associated with the Acts require the Council to publish the details of the proposals for certain periods of time to allow any valid objection or observation to be considered. Details of the publication period are contained in the various individual orders, along with contact details.
