This £1.75 million scheme is designed to protect Rothesay Town Centre against a 1 in 100 year flood event and involves the construction of a flood wall along the back of the esplanade between MacKinlay Street and Albert Pier.
The contract has been awarded to Raynesway Construction Services Ltd and is programmed to take 35 weeks to complete.
PROGRESS REPORT - August 2004
The flood prevention works are now nearing substantial completion with the majority of the flood walls complete.
A number of delays have been caused to the construction works mainly due to finding uncharted services which have had to be diverted clear of the works. There have also been problems with the supply of precast concrete copes to finish off the top of the walls.
The revised completion date is now early September 2004.
For several weeks, the contractor has had a workforce of 50 operatives on the site and is working until 8pm to ensure that no further delays occur.
The raised stacking area is now complete and the main part of the esplanade is being prepared for resurfacing. As sections of the wall are completed, these areas will be re-opened to the public.
PROGRESS REPORT - December 2004
The flood prevention scheme was substantially completed in mid-October with only minor works to fencing and parapets still to be completed. Here are some pictures of the completed project.
