We are keen to promote the health, environmental and financial benefits of using more sustainable means of commuting, such as walking, cycling or using public transport. However, for many – perhaps as many of 60% of employees like you – the car is the only realistic means of getting to work. You know its neither cheap nor good for you or the environment, but what choice to you have?..... Car sharing in Argyll and Bute is for you.

You almost certainly live close to someone who faces the same tedious drive to work as you. By agreeing to share your commute – and your costs – with them, you will reap these direct benefits:

You will make our roads safer

Driving to work is probably your most dangerous daily activity. Sharing your car journey will reduce the number of cars on the road making your commute safer and easier.

You will spend less

The average commuter travels 6,800 miles every year, at a cost of £1450 p.a. (excluding tax and insurance, based on figures from the AA and DfT). You can halve these costs by sharing your commute with a colleague, saving enough for a shopping spree, the latest stereo equipment or a sun-drenched week in the Med!

You will help save the environment

Cars are cleaner than ever today but it still requires two and a half trees to offset the carbon dioxide emissions from the daily commute from every car, every year. Halving the carbon dioxide emission through car sharing would put the UK on track to meet its national target of a 20% cut in emissions by 2010.

Everyday we drive to work on our own and often we get stressed or angry with other drivers. Sharing your journey with a friendly colleague means plenty of time to laugh and chat and, with two pairs of eyes on the road, you will arrive safer, happier and feeling good!
