Argyll and Bute Council have been awarded a grant of £385000 from Historic Scotland and the Historic Environment Regeneration Fund to administer a CARS (Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme) in Campbeltown Town Centre. In addition to this Argyll and Bute Council has itself contributed £200000 with a further £100000 from HIE Argyll and the Islands - serious money for a jewel of a town whose historic buildings have seen better days.

The scheme will run from 2007 until 2011 and aims to preserve and enhance the town centre by preventing further decay and repairing the build fabric of the town, to make the town centre a more atrractive place to live, work and visit, to bring new skills to the area, as well as raising awareness of the towns historic past.

It will bring old buildings back into use, offer general repair grants, shopfornt repairs and reinstatements, provide training in traditional construction skills and celebrate what is special about Campbeltown.

Historic properites within the map boundary (see pdf documents below) may be eligible for grant assistant subject to conditions.
