Rothesay Pavilion

This truly iconic building, opened in 1938 (see history section), sits in an unparalleled position at the north west end of Rothesay’s famous Victorian Esplanade, commanding unsurpassed views of Rothesay Bay, and across to the Cowal Peninsula, and the Renfrewshire and Ayrshire coasts.

Rothesay Pavilion’s national architectural importance has been recognised by the award of Grand “A” listing, and the building still retains many original Art Deco features.

Built in the era of the “Big Band Sound”, Rothesay Pavilion was specifically designed to fulfil a wide range of functions – from dancing to conferences, variety shows to flower shows, and a host of sports activities and exhibitions of all types. It was an early example of a multi-functional facility, long before the term had been coined!

For the past seven decades, Rothesay Pavilion has been at the heart of the island community while providing facilities for countless thousands of visitors to the Isle of Bute.
