Argyll and Bute Council has invited schoolchildren from across the Council area to draw pictures of how they think the Freedom of Argyll and Bute Ceremony will look.
The ceremony, which will take place on Saturday 7 April in the Sports Centre in Lochgilphead will be the first time the Freedom of the area has been given since Local Government Re-organisation in 1996. It is also the first time that this honour has been bestowed on a ship.
Schoolchildren in Argyll and Bute have been asked to produce pictures in one of three categories – Picture of HMS Argyll, Picture of Freedom Ceremony or Picture of Lochgilphead with ships crew and Royal Marine Band parading through the streets. The winners of the competition who will be chosen by officials representing Argyll and Bute Council and HMS Argyll will be given VIP treatment on the day of the ceremony with a tour of the ship and the chance to watch the Freedom Ceremony itself. Four children will be given this opportunity, one child representing each of the Council areas.
