Argyll and Bute Council’s Transport spokesperson Councillor Duncan MacIntyre has welcomed the commitment by Deputy Minister for Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning Lewis Macdonald, to undertake a route action study on the section of the A82 between Tarbet and Crainlarich.

He said, “The A82 is the major route serving the whole West Highlands and Islands and has not in the past received enough investment to sustain our economy and attract new investment. Its improvement is key to the economic regeneration of the region. We are heartened by the announcement of the Minister as an acceptance of this position.

“We would wish to work in partnership with the Executive to investigate the problems on the route as an initial action in the justification for the need to build a completely new section of road between Tarbet and Inverarnan. The road is so poor that any lesser action by way of minor widening or signing improvements will only make the safety problems worse.”

The Minister made the announcement as part of a £20 million package for road improvements across Scotland.
