VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS, CLUBS AND LICENSEES REMINDED OF EXTENDED NOTICE PERIOD

Voluntary organisations, clubs and licensed premises are being reminded that the notice period required for submitting applications for occasional licences or extended licensing hours has changed.Previously, the situation was that Argyll and Bute Licensing Board had to be given at least 14 days’ notice for processing such applications.
Since the new Licensing Act came into effect on September 1 last year, however, that period has now extended to 28 days.
Licensing Board Chair Councillor Daniel Kelly said this change had caused a few problems in recent months.
“Since the new regulations came into force, we have found ourselves in situations where someone has applied for a licence for an event which is due to take place less than 28 days later,” he explained.
“We obviously don’t want to disappoint people by being unable to process their application within the required timescale. So I would like to emphasise to anyone who may be in the position of applying for a licence in the future that the application must be submitted at least 28 days before the date of the event for which the licence is sought.”
