Following speculation and misinformation over the future of Eadar Glinn Care Home, along with various other homes in the area, Argyll and Bute Council has today clarified the position by emphasising that no decision has been made to close, sell or lease any care homes.

The Council's spokesperson for Social Services, Councillor Donald McIntosh, said: "I want to make it clear that no decision has been made to sell or lease any care homes in Argyll and Bute.

"The review of the Council's Social Work Service in January 2007 recommended various options for the future delivery of older people's services, including care homes.

As a result, a special committee for older people's services was established to develop proposals for the future of the services. These included a market testing exercise on the basis of the lease or sale of a limited number of care home buildings. This is purely a testing process at this stage.

"We want to retain and develop services for older people throughout the area and ongoing consultations will continue with all those concerned. A programme of briefings has been arranged for staff, residents and their families to make sure they are kept informed of the situation, as part of the Council's commitment to continue quality of care delivery to our communities and care home residents."
