Argyll and Bute Council is supporting Waste Aware Scotland's Home Composting Campaign which offers residents discounted compost bins.

The 2008 campaign, which was launched last month by the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead, aims to get even more of the Scottish public composting kitchen and garden waste.

Councillor Robert Macintyre, the Council's Environment Spokesperson, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for people throughout Argyll and Bute to do their bit for the environment whilst also getting a great conditioner that will help to improve the growth of plants and flowers.

"I urge the people of Argyll and Bute to do their bit for the local environment and buy a composting bin today."

As part of the campaign, a new Waste Aware Scotland Home Composting mini site was launched. This provides information on how to begin composting and what you can compost. For information and advice visit www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk or call the Home Composting Helpline on 0845 600 0323.

Compost bins can be ordered via the Waste Aware Scotland website www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk or by calling the order line on 0845 077 0756.
