Four dog owners in Argyll and Bute were issued fixed penalty notices within just three days of each last week after they allowed their dogs to foul in public areas and failed to clean up after them.

Argyll and Bute Council's Environment Warden issued three of the four £40 penalties in Port Ellen, Islay, and one in Lochgilphead.

The Council's spokesperson for the Environment, Councillor Robert Macintyre, said: "It must be acknowledged that whilst the majority of dog owners are responsible people and set a fine example for all, we still have some who cause concern.

"I would like to remind the people of Argyll and Bute that it is an offence to fail to clean up after your dog and the Council's wardens will continue to be pro-active throughout the area to try and stamp out this shocking display of poor practice by some dog owners.

"I am sure that you will agree that those measures are necessary if dogs are to be readily accepted in the community and not the subject of complaint or concern."
