Argyll and Bute Council has welcomed the publication of a new guide to Loch Creran marine Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

This unique and comprehensive guide has been published by local marine biologist Terry Donovan and aims to increase awareness and understanding of this special loch.

Councillor Robert Macintyre, the Council's Economy, Environment and Rural Affairs spokesperson, said: "The guide promotes Loch Creran as an outdoor destination to be visited and enjoyed by all.

"It offers something for both locals and visitors to the area and, within its chapters, it describes and illustrates the amazing wildlife and natural habitats found in and around Loch Creran.

"The guide also gives wonderful details of the history and natural heritage of the area which is sure to make it an invaluable companion for everyone, including divers, sailors, cyclists and walkers.’

The development of this guide has been a community-based project from the outset, funded through the Argyll Marine Natural Project, which was joint-funded by Argyll and Bute Council, Scottish Natural Heritage and the WHELK Leader+ programme.

Author Terry Donovan said: "Loch Creran is a very special place. I hope the guide will inspire people to explore it fully and appreciate its wildlife, history and the role it plays in the lives of those who live and work on and around it."

The guide is just £4 and is available directly from Terry by calling 01631 720498 or by e-mailing her on terry@backwoodsman-stoves.co.uk.

It is also available from the SNH office in Oban as well as a number of local shops and centres. The guides will also be distributed free to local schools and libraries.

All money raised will be used to fund further marine conservation projects in Argyll and Bute.
