Friends and colleagues gathered to pay tribute to Murdo for his services to the council and the people of Argyll and Bute, and to the huge range of personal knowledge he has assimilated of the records pertaining to this area.
Murdo was presented with gifts from his colleagues and friends, and with a civic quaich by Head of Democratic Services and Governance Charles Reppke marking his long service with the council.
Murdo will be greatly missed by his colleagues but he indicated in accepting the gifts that he intends to keep in touch with the archive so that the knowledge he holds will still be available to his successor.
While the post is reducing from full to part time, Argyll and Bute Council is confident that the standard of service will remain the same.
A council spokesperson said, “The council will continue to provide an archive although there will be a reduced level of service. The archive service will focus on ensuring that the records are conserved in an efficient and appropriate manner so that the valuable resource that is the Argyll and Bute archive is available for future generations.”
