Moving Forward - Transport Policy for Argyll and Bute

Moving Forward Logo

There can be little argument that transport is vital to the economic and social life of Argyll and Bute, given that every single resident within our area depends on transport in some way to function within their daily lives.

This Local Transport Strategy covers the period 2007 - 2010 and sets out plans, polices and projects for improving transport in Argyll and Bute. It has been developed in close partnership with our Community Planning partners and received wide support during an extensive public consultation early in 2007. It is important that we now use this strategy as a foundation on which to create the transport conditions we need to thrive in today's competitive world.

It was intended to undertake a refresh of the Local Transport Strategy in 2010 however, prior to undertaking this process we were awaiting publication of the Scottish Government’s revised National Transport Strategy. The Scottish Government have since confirmed that given the challenging economic climate they want to focus on delivering existing transportation commitments including those set out in the Strategic Transport Projects Review and, as such, they will no longer be proceeding with a update of the National Transport Strategy.   Our current Local Transport Strategy is considered to be a robust document which is reflective of the visions and objectives set out in the current National Transport Strategy and it will continue to set a direction for future investment in transport in Argyll.
