Single Status

Job Evaluation and Single Status are part of a national agreement which the Council was required to put into action locally. Known as the “Red Book” Scottish agreement, it was drawn up between the employers and the trade unions representing Local Government Employees in Scotland. The agreement required each Council to undertake a job evaluation exercise for all employees who had been on the former APT&C, residential and manual workers conditions of service. At the end of the job evaluation exercise, when putting results into operation the Council had to harmonise conditions of service between the groups to ensure that all employees move to a common set of conditions of service.

After we embarked on the evaluation part of the process in Argyll and Bute the scheme was revised which led to delays in bringing the process to completion.

The Single Status agreement came into effect on Monday 18th February 2008. Letters were sent to all employees covered by the agreement, providing details of the new pay structure and package of conditions of service as it affected them.
