About our School : Lochgilphead Primary School is situated on the east side of Lochgilphead, 24 miles from Inveraray and 38 miles from Oban. This attractive and rural town lies at the head of a small inlet, Loch Gilp, which flows inland from the well known and larger Loch Fyne. Lochgilphead Primary School was opened in 1979. It is of a semi open plan design with an open area at each end of the school with classrooms opening onto them. Between these two areas is a gym hall, which also acts as a dining and assembly facility. The school also has a computer room. The school is keen to use the local area as a resource and to develop close links with the community. Close links have been established with the local secondary school and the nearby learning centre along with a variety of local services. The school also has links with the local churches with ministers taking turns serving as the school chaplain. A very active parent and teacher association has operated since the school was opened and close links with parents have been developed in a variety of ways ever since. The school also has an active School Board. Extra-curricular activities play an important part in the life of the school with pupils enjoying a wide range of activities including shinty, badminton, senior and junior school choirs, netball, Scottish country dancing, recorder, RSPB, chess, library and Warhammer club.
