About our School : Hermitage Academy is a non-denominational, comprehensive school, which takes pupils from Helensburgh and the surrounding area. Our first year pupils come from primary schools at Cardross, Rhu, Garelochhead, Rosneath, Kilcreggan, Arrochar and Luss as well as the three primary schools in Helensburgh, Colgrain, Hermitage and John Logie Baird. In addition, due to the nature of the area, we have pupils who enter or leave the school during each session, usually to other schools in Britain, but also abroad. Our pupils come to us from different backgrounds, with different abilities and talents and our main aim is to provide a sound general education for all of them. We believe that education should continue to provide the learning standards held in high regard by the community. This means an emphasis on the work of academic subjects, but we also ensure that our pupils receive a balanced curriculum, with suitable experience of practical and aesthetic subjects. Within subjects we set aims appropriate to the wide range of abilities of our pupils and we develop and use teaching methods suitable to the needs of individuals. However, education extends beyond the classroom, so we also provide facilities and activities which allow children to develop aspects of their personalities and abilities. In these varied ways we help all pupils develop and achieve not only the highest educational qualifications of which they are capable, but also to help prepare them for their continuing development beyond school, in work or further study, in leisure and as a member of the community.
