All of our libraries hold books and other materials for children and young people. People's Network computers are there to help with homework or just for fun.
It's easy to join the library - your baby or child can join at any age and babies and toddlers are welcome in our libraries. Your child can have their own library ticket. Just ask your librarian for an application form, fill it in, and don't forget to bring some form of proof of your address such as a utilities bill or benefit book.
It's free for everyone to join the library and some other services are free to children. For example, we don't charge a fine for books returned late if they are borrowed on the child's ticket. However, you can extend the loan by phone before the date it is due back.
Children can borrow up to 6 items - books, story tapes or audio - for 4 weeks.
We ask you to sign the application form to indicate your willingness to be responsible for looking after material borrowed by you or your child.
Libraries have lots of books for families, too - on baby care, feeding toddlers, knitting and sewing for children, books on child health. If you can't find what you want, ask the librarians, who will be happy to help.
