Chapter 4 - How we will measure our progress
4.1 Targets and Indicators We need to be able to judge how effectively the strategy is working, and whether we are achieving our objectives and those of the country as a whole. The annual update to the Action Plan will indicate what we have achieved and where we need to make greater efforts. The strategy has an initial period of 3 years and significant improvements in many areas will take longer than this to achieve. Where possible we have estimated targets over the 3 timeframes identified in the Action Plan - short, medium and long term. All targets have been set from the baseline stated. However, many of these targets are affected by factors other than transport interventions and adjustments may be necessary as the strategy is implemented.
| Short term - 2007 - 2010 | Medium term - 2010 - 2015 | Long term - 2015 - 2025 |

We have tried to include indicators that are already collected / reported or can be demonstrated through the completion of an intervention on our Action Plan. Some of these indicators may point to the fact that the strategy needs to be adjusted to reflect changing circumstances. This information will be gathered to inform the preparation of the next local transport strategy.
