Policy and legislation developed by the European Union has a significant impact on the operation of many Council services.

The Council's European Strategy seeks to monitor policy developments which affect rural and island areas and issues. Key areas of importance are Regional Policy, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), Environmental Policy and Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
