Planning

The Planning Service has 4 Key Statutory Functions:

Development Management
The processing of planning applications and other related submissions in accordance with the legal requirements, agreed performance standards and customer care expections.

Building Standards
Regulatory arm largely involved in the processing of Building Warrants and Completion Certificates. Primary aim is to ensure the health, safety and well being of people in and around buildings and the conservation of energy and power.

Development Policy
The production, monitoring and review of Structure and Local Plans for the Argyll and Bute area.

Development Projects
Multi disciplined section geared to the development and implementation of projects and initatives aimed at promoting the sustainable development of Argyll and Bute's economy and having regard to the Council's Corporate Policy document.


The Council's Planning Service is largely delivered on a decentralised basis with only the managerial function, Development Policy and Development Projects based at Council Headquarters in Kilmory.The regulatory functions of Development Management and Building Standards are decentralised to four local area offices.
