ARGYLL & BUTE INVASIVE SPECIES FORUM

Text Box: PRESS RELEASE TO MARK THE LAUNCH OF ARGYLL & BUTE INVASIVE SPECIES FORUM
Invaders – beware!
Invasive species whether plant, mammal, fish, insect, crustation or amphibian pose some of the biggest threats to our biodiversity and economic sustainability in Argyll & Bute. Is it now time we did something about these unwelcome aliens? Admittedly, not all introduced species have invasive tendencies; our garden centres and horticultural outlets supply plants to us with brilliant varieties of colour, texture and structure that we have come to love. But the reality is that some plants have ‘jumped the garden fence’ and escaped into our countryside taking up residence on our land and in our freshwater systems.  This is just one example of how invasive species populate our beautiful landscape. There are many other ways that species can enter our land, freshwater and marine habitats.
