Find out what day your bins are collected and what we collect from you

If you live in the Helensburgh and Lomond area, your green wheelie bin for general household waste is collected every two weeks.  We also offer a blue bin for mixed recycling (see below for more details) which is collected every two weeks.  In addition we offer food waste recycling, which is collected every week (see below), and in many areas glass recycling, which is collected every four weeks.

When are your bins emptied?

The calendars below show you when the green and blue wheelie bins are collected in your area. Your food waste recycling is collected each week when your green or blue bin is emptied.

What can you put in your blue bin?

Blue wheelie binPaper, newspapers, magazines, envelopes (minus windows), Yellow pages / telephone directories, cardboard packaging, cardboard tunes, ready meal sleeves, egg boxes, food and drinks cartons e.g. tetra paks, food cans, drinks cans, empty aerosol cans, biscuit and sweet tins, plastic drinks bottles, cosmetic plastic bottles.

Please could you rinse all food and drink cans, cartons and plastic bottles before recycling.

What can you put in your food waste bin?

Food waste binsMeat and fish, including bones, fruit and vegetables, dairy products including eggs and cheese, bread, cakes and pastries, beans, pasta and rice, tea bags and coffee grounds. You can now also include used kitchen roll and paper with food residues on it.

We will be giving out approximately 6 months supply of food waste bags to each household participating in the food waste scheme. After 6 months, we will give out another supply. If your suppply runs out and you need more bags, please call the enquiry line on 01546 605514 or use our online form to order more. This replaces the yellow flag scheme for requesting food waste bags.

Please try and ensure only full bags of food waste are placed in the food waste bin for collection - this will help minimise the number of food waste bags required.

Your Grey Bin for Glass Recyling

Many parts of Helensburgh and Lomond can now take part in our kerbside glass recycling collections.  This is collected in a grey wheelie bin every four weeks - please see the calendars below to find out when your grey bin is collected.

What can I put in my grey bin?

Grey wheelie binYou can use your grey bin to recycle the following materials:

  • cooking sauce bottles and jars, cooking oil bottles, wine bottles, beer bottles, soft drink bottles, coffee jars, pasta sauce jars, baby food jars, jam jars, pickle jars

Please do not put the following items in your grey bin:

  • ceramics, drinking glasses, light bulbs, plates, cups, lids or bottle tops, mirrors or window glass

Please remove all caps and lids, however there is no need to remove labels.

Please place your glass items into the bin, and not into bags or liners
